Not everybody feels comfortable in the pub

It's the done thing around where I live - we all go to the pub after a meeting. But we don't all go do we?

Last night I attended a curry night for a voluntary group. I helped organised it. It wasn't boozy but beer and wine were enjoyed, by most.

None of our new muslim members attended.

Our voluntary groups may inadvertently exclude people of faith or who perhaps have family commitments or budget constraints.

Or health issues.

So some potential new members may feel our activity just isn't for them. Or that they've been excluded from informal decision making.

We might think we are the caring, sharing, welcoming guys that talk the talk about inclusiveness while we make decisions in pubs, in our little committees - and we exclude some of the very people we need to support. And whose support we need.
