My home city is currently bustling with visitors, many of whom are here for short periods of time. They are tourists.
They are welcomed because they contribute to our economy.
The city also has visitors who stay longer.
They come from all over the world. These people work here.
They spend money while they are here, just like tourists do. They contribute to the economy, just like tourist visitors. They create demand for goods and services, just like everybody here. They pay taxes, too. Not just VAT. Income tax.
These working visitors are often known as immigrants.
Labour believes that these working visitor numbers should be controlled. I think they mean reduced. Why?
That's because UKIP and most other parties fail to be truthful about the positive effects of working visitors. We can't blame people for being scared when they don't yet know the facts.
